Thanksgiving: A Time of Gratitude for Relationships and Provisions

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

This week many of us will take time to get together with family and friends to celebrate a holiday that began with the Pilgrims in New England long ago. It’s an opportunity to appreciate our relationships and give thanks for all God has provided for us relationally, materially and spiritually.

Just think about how thankful the Pilgrims must have been, those who survived the first winter and were able to partake of the first harvest. I think about how grateful they must have been for the other people around them. We need each other as much as we need food, water and shelter.

Life is full of challenges and heartaches as well as triumphs and joys. What makes it all worthwhile is the people we are with in the good times and the bad. As long as we love and are loved we can make it through many hardships and we will have double the joy in our triumphs.

How will you show your gratitude this Thanksgiving? I’ve been thinking about the ways I want to be intentional about expressing my gratitude to my family and friends. I’m also thinking of the the ways I want to be intentional about thanking God for His blessings in my life.

Growing up on the farm in Ohio, I learned very early in life that we will reap what we sow. If you planted seeds of corn, you would reap a harvest of corn. If you planted seeds of wheat, you’d reap a crop of wheat.

So it is with gratitude. If you faithfully sow seeds of thankfulness for others and for God, you will in turn be appreciated.

I’m thankful for you! Today I’m thanking God for so many people in my life and for all He has provided for me.

Wishing you a holiday week full of blessings of all kinds with the people you love –
