The Hearing Heart app is a daily devotional tool designed to help users interactively connect with the different “faces,” or facets, of God’s nature.
Content and Structure
The app contains 312 specific adorations, which provide guided meditations for the first six days of each week over the course of a year. On the seventh day of each week, users are encouraged to write their own custom adoration prayer focusing on a face of God that stood out to them. The content purposefully utilizes “repetition with variation” as a key learning method to reinforce core spiritual themes. The audio readings for the meditations are planned to be voiced by the author’s family members and close relational connections.
The Daily App Flow
Each daily session is structured to lead the user through a calming, interactive relational experience with God:
- Welcome and Quieting: The app plays quiet, soothing background music and welcomes the user, inviting them to perceive God’s face shining upon them.
- Physical Resting: Users are guided to slow down, take deep breaths, sigh, and physically lean back to welcome the Heavenly Father’s nearness and embrace.
- Scripture: A calming passage, such as Psalm 131 (“I have calmed and quieted my soul”), is read to center the user.
- Interactive Gratitude: Users are prompted to recall one simple thing they are thankful for and pray, “Dear Father, I am so grateful for…”.
- Listening: Users then pause to ask God how He feels about their gratitude, taking a moment to listen and note any thoughts or whispers from the Holy Spirit.
- Adoration: The session concludes by focusing on a specific face of God (such as “You are the God Who is Abba Father” or “You are the God Who Accepts Us”). This includes a related Bible verse, a rich prayer of adoration, and a concluding encouraging statement about how God sees His people in light of that specific attribute.
