What Does ‘Fully Alive’ Really Mean Anyway?

Recently I had the privilege of doing a podcast for a new friend and award winning author, Janet Huxley McElyea. She interviewed me about my book, The Divine Invitation: Entering the Dance of Becoming Fully Alive. I thought I would share it with you today – it’s about an hour long podcast. Just click the link above to access it and listen away while you go about your day.

This book was a long time in the making! It was birthed back in 1990 in a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with God which came in response to my prayer, “Lord what does it look like to be fully me with Jesus in me as a woman?” Jesus did after all, come in a man’s body! I wanted to know personally and for all the women who might have that same question, “What does that look like and how does it happen?”

And what does being ‘fully alive’ mean anyway? That phrase was in this powerful encounter I had with God – and it comes from a quote from a famous saint named St. Irenaeus from the first century AD. He was speaking to a world that had become heavy-laden with religion and asceticism, holding up a flag of truth. Essentially he wanted to say that being fully alive was about becoming the person God intended you to be in the first place. It’s about keeping your heart engaged and alive to God and other people. That comes about by having a deep personal relationship with Jesus, which brings life and more life, vs religious striving to “kill” the evil within and make oneself ‘presentable’ to God. It’s always about relationship vs religion.

I wrote the book for women everywhere who love Jesus or who want to come to know him. It brings you deeper into relationship with Him in the “dance” of the ups and downs of life, with the people in your life, and most of all with Jesus Himself.

Being fully alive is not some flowery, fanciful dream – it is about coming to the cross of Christ, dying with Jesus on that cross to your sinful nature, and being resurrected with Him by faith into new life. It’s about a woman’s journey into becoming fully alive and mature in Christ.

I created a course to go along with the book with downloadable study guides so that you could do a group book study with your friends or church group. And of course you can do it individually as well. I’ve also created a couple of coaching options you might want to check out, including The Divine Invitation Mastermind for women. I hope you’ll listen to the podcast, check out the book, and look at the opportunities for coaching today. I’m ready to start another Mastermind soon!. You can do all that on my website here.

Be encouraged today – whatever your life is like right now, there’s more for you! Jesus said so:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 ESV

With love and prayers,
