There is a song that brings me to tears every time I hear it. It’s called The Blessing, performed by Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship. You can listen to it here (make sure you have Kleenexes!):
When they get to this part of the lyrics, I’m sobbing:
“May His favor be upon you
For a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children”
There is absolutely nothing more precious to me than this blessing from God on our families, from generation to generation – from us to our children and their children and their children, for a thousand generations…and beyond!
My husband has been writing blogs for Life Model Works, a ministry he helps to lead. Here is something he wrote in one of them after a conversation he had with one of our sons:
“One of my adult sons recently sat me down and essentially said, “Dad, I love and respect you so much. I know that you have navigated with God’s help through many situations that have been filled with both blessings and trials. I really want to learn more specifics about what you have experienced and learned.” It was so wonderful to have him “interview” me, man to man. It was easy to open my heart freely to him in the light of such curiosity!”
This is how it’s done! The blessings we have been given are passed down from generation by the things we do and say to our children. Then they receive more blessings of their own and pass them down to their children and so on and so on!
I pray this blessing from Number 6 over you today:
22The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23“Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, 24The Lord bless you and keep you; 25the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

From my household to yours with love,
Terri
