Navigating a Covid Christmas

“We shouldn’t be here at all, if we’d known more about it before we started. But I suppose it’s often that way. The brave things in the old tales and songs, Mr. Frodo: adventures, as I used to call them. I used to think that they were things the wonderful folk of the stories went out and looked for, because they wanted them, because they were exciting and life was a bit dull, a kind of a sport, as you might say. But that’s not the way of it with the tales that really mattered, or the ones that stay in the mind. Folk seem to have been just landed in them, usually — their paths were laid that way, as you put it. But I expect they had lots of chances, like us, of turning back, only they didn’t…” – quote from The Two Towers, by J.R.R. Tolkein

I love this quote from Sam in the Lord of the Rings saga. He ends the quote above by asking Frodo, “I wonder what sort of a tale we’ve fallen into?”

You might be wondering yourselves in 2020 ‘what sort of tale we’ve fallen into’. Like none other we’ve ever been in before. And certainly not one we would have chosen!

As you approach the Christmas and New Year holiday season in 2020 I imagine that lots of questions and emotions are coming up. You love to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to celebrate with extended family. You have so many cherished memories that we want to relive and create more of each year. At the same time you feel the looming danger of Covid-19. In some places, gatherings of more than 10 are prohibited. You imagine the holidays on Zoom and don’t really want to do it that way. You wonder what alternatives you have, what to do!?

In light of this, I’ve decided to do a 5-Day Holiday Challenge right after Thanksgiving. I think it helps a lot to come together to share our thoughts, feelings and ideas. On these calls I will also be giving you tools you can use to maintain peace and connection with God and others. These tools are practices from Life Model Works to use throughout the holidays and beyond. It will be five Zoom calls with anyone interested and able to make it at 7:00 am to 8:00 am Central Nov. 28 through Dec. 2. Click below to find out more, and if you’d like to come you can sign up there, too.

Thinking of you as you go through this season, praying for the Presence of God to be powerfully with you, giving you peace and joy!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

With love and prayers,
