Here’s a story you’ll love

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall season! This past weekend I had the privilege of attending a retreat in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas with the board of Life Model Works. My husband recently received the honor of being named the CEO of this ministry and this was a special time with some really amazing leaders.

Just the drive there and back from Kansas City was truly inspiring. The autumn colors of red, orange, gold and evergreen blanketed the mountains like a colorful quilt! Above is a photo of the retreat property where we stayed. It makes me think of the different colors and facets of our lives that radiate and ‘show up’ in different seasons of our lives, reflecting our ‘true colors’.

I have a story to share with you about a man named Clint who I recently coached. He went really deep into discovering his ‘true colors’ (his identity and purpose) in the course of our coaching. As a result, he changed his job and is pursuing a pathway to his passion.

One of Clint’s favorite movies is Hacksaw Ridge, the true story of Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector and army medic in WW2 who rescued 75 men from a battlefield during the Battle of Okinawa. Clint dreams of being a person like that, one who’s on the ground after a natural disaster rescuing every person he possibly can. Every time he talks about it, he weeps. His heart is so ‘THERE‘!

Now he is working diligently to find a way for his whole being to be ‘THERE‘. Here is a video he made for me about his coaching experience:

Rarely do people take time to go deep like Clint did, to look for the meaning within, to get clarity on their true colors and align their lives accordingly. I believe that gaining the understanding of our original design is sacred work.

God created each of us with a unique blueprint. Each and every time we reinvent ourselves, we can go back to that blueprint to find the wisdom we need for what’s next. Each time we have the opportunity to become more of the person we were originally intended to be.

As Dan Miller says in his book, 48 Days to the Work You Love (p.70),

Look inward to give shape to the work that is fitting for you, and the application will appear.

That is what happened for Clint! He has already found some applications for his passions, and is continuing down that path until he has found the ultimate kind of work that is fitting for him. It takes intentional action to make a dream come true, but it is entirely possible!

And be sure to take some time to enjoy the beauty of nature in this season, as well as the season of life you are in!

With great hope for you to live life fully alive!
