I’ve had this song playing in my head today over and over. You will recognize it I’m sure – it’s called O Holy Night.
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world, in sin and error pining
‘Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
At that time over 2000 years ago, the world Jesus was born into was ruled by one of the most tyrannical regimes ever on the face of this planet. Roman rule was crushing, people were enslaved by a ruthless, godless, wealthy elite. Sin, disease, wars, and more had taken their toll on the people of our world. The world was weary, as this hymn declares.
Suddenly the sky was lit by the great light from a star so bright that those who understood the signs of the times decided to get on their camels and follow it. Jesus was about to be born in Bethlehem of Galilee. And He was a light SO much brighter than the one that lit the sky the night he came into our world!
Isaiah 9:2 ESV says: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them a light shone.” This was a foreshadowing a day to come, specifically to take place in Galilee.
This same Scripture is quoted again in the New Testament, after Jesus’ birth when the prophecy is actually being fulfilled.
The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned. – Matthew 4: 16 ESV
When darkness was deep and overwhelming, God came. He showed up in a most unexpected way. When the light shines, darkness flees. When God does that, we get a Divine Reset, when business as usual ceases and a plumbline from heaven comes down. People are given the opportunity to get off the broken merry-go-round of living life on their own terms and to come to God to do life on His terms.
Do you believe we may be in one of those moments right now, when an opportunity for a Divine Reset is being given? I do! We certainly need one.
Whenever darkness manifests, I remember that the Light of the world, Jesus Christ is still shining as brightly as ever – though not all can see Him. But the Wise Men from the East did. They were people who regularly looked up. If you are wise, you are a person who habitually looks up to heaven for guidance here on earth.
Look up! It is then you will receive a Divine Reset when it is needed. I’m praying we will all receive this great gift of alignment with Him now!
Tomorrow, Monday December 7, 7:00 pm Central, I’m hosting a Holiday Resilience Masterclass. It’s the same one I did last week, just offering it again for those who couldn’t make it last time, or would like to do it again. This is a time of considering a reset before the holidays are upon us. We will look up together and receive some wisdom from each other about how to navigate this holiday season well.
You can read more about it and sign up here:
Praying for you and for all of us, Lord help us yield to your divine reset!
Love, Terri
