Dear friends,
Can you feel the shaking going on? When so much change and uncertainty comes upon us so suddenly we can’t help but feel jostled by it. Like an earthquake suddenly shakes the ground under your feet, so these times are shaking us and our world.
Listen to the words of this verse of Scripture:
Now this phrase “once and for all” clearly indicates the final removal of things that are shaking, that is, the old order, so only what is unshakeable will remain. Since we are receiving our rights to an unshakeable kingdom we should be extremely thankful and offer God the purest worship that delights his heart as we lay down our lives in absolute surrender, filled with awe. For our God is a holy, devouring fire! Hebrews 12:27-29 The Passion Translation
As I read this I get on my knees and pray, asking for His grace to let go of anything He wants to remove and to build more of what is unshakeable.
Hebrews chapter 13 goes on to describe 12 things that build an unshakeable life. Here they are:
- Brotherly love
- Show hospitality to strangers
- Solidarity with those imprisoned for their faith
- Strong marriages/marital fidelity
- Financial contentment
- Respect for spiritual leaders
- Sound doctrine – keeping the main things the main things
- Be willing to suffer reproach for your faith, but retain your dignity
- Keep an eternal perspective
- Worship God freely
- Do good for others
- Lead a life of prayer
Instead of hitting the panic button, looking out only for ourselves, hoarding supplies, etc., we can hit the Hebrews 13 button! I’m going to print this list and keep it where I can see it.
These are the things that bring stability, things that have eternal value as well as value for people. These things build an unshakeable life.
My husband and I spoke to a church in Wisconsin on Zoom last Sunday about this whole topic and the verses in Hebrews 12 and 13. Here’s the link if you’d like to watch: https://zoom.us/rec/share/wZxcA6z38EhJXa_UtwbldZ88H6LXaaa8gyca-vYNnxz7x0PjJggcPNiM6IMFCHMX?startTime=1585495573000
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this. I hope this is helpful for you!
